Beyond Bizarre - New Jodi Arias Video Surfaces

Just when I thought things couldn't get stranger in the Jodi Arias murder trial, a new video clip was released from July 15, 2008 when Arias was arrested in Yreka, CA. We've all seen the interrogation video(s) between Detective Esteban Flores and Jodi Arias from July 15th and July 16th, but today a clip was released that has never been seen before.

The clip shows Arias in the room where she was questioned by Detective Flores, and at some point Jodi Arias is left alone in that room and what does she do? She does a handstand against the wall, no shoes on - just does a handstand against the wall of that interview room! In the audio, she can be heard laughing, giggling - and at one point she talks to herself in the third person "Goodness, you could've at least done your makeup Jodi".....she's smiling yet it's almost an eerie and evil smile, and laughing like a lunatic.

Now I've really seen it all!  This woman had just been arrested for the first degree murder of a man she supposedly loved and she's laughing and smiling? Concerned about her makeup? And anybody who talks about themselves in the third person is a little bit off to begin with. The jury hasn't and won't see this clip - actually, it may be better that they don't because they may think she is crazy, and that may actually hurt the State's case.

The video has made it's way onto the web - it's not hard to find. I just saw it on HLN News, but it's already made it's way onto Radar Online :

http://radaronline.com/exclusives/2013/03/jodi-arias-sings-handstands-police-interrogation-video/

and other sites. Arias seems to be obsessed with her own looks. If you recall, Detective Flores said that when he went to her grandmother's home in Yreka to arrest Jodi, she asked if she could go back in to get her makeup.  In her "press conferences" from jail, she can be seen applying makeup and actually asking them not to roll the film until she's ready.  Narcissistic AND a psychopath. Not a good combination.

The hearing on what Dr. Samuels will be allowed to testify to and what materials can be submitted was cancelled today and rescheduled for Monday morning.  These 3 day trial weeks is really stretching this thing out, and I worry that the jury isn't sequestered - all it takes is one juror to read, hear or discuss something about this case and you have a mistrial.  I think they need to start having FULL court days, no more late/delayed starts and at least a 4 day trial week!  They've had these 4-5 day recesses in between, not to mention that 12 (?) days between the prosecution resting and the defense starting their case.

This is a very high profile case, and it seems to be a part time trial. Very few full days, where they begin on time remain in the courtroom for full days. I understand that trials are fluid, and things come up that can't be foreseen, but it seems like they have had a lot of issues with evidence - I thought all of that stuff was supposed to be hashed out pre-trial?

If you haven't seen the Jodi Arias handstand video clip, you have to see it. What a whack-job!!

  1. I totally think she behaved this way in the video for OUR benefit. She is pretty sly - she knew she was being recorded. She knew that somehow, at some time, she might want it to support insanity. She strikes me as somebody that really studies previous crimes and movies about crimes. I don't think it's coincidence that she has done some of the same things that Casey Anthony did that were reported on TV ad nauseum. Likewise Amanda Knox did cartwheels when she was being questioned. I think Jodi is a true criminal and studies both fiction and non-fiction criminals. She is manipulative to the core. Even when there is really nothing substantial to gain from her manipulation, she does it for self-satisfaction - it's like a competition to see if she can out manipulate someone. But when there is something for her benefit, she goes all out with her manipulative antics. I completely believe that she knew that this behavior would one day be broadcast. By the way, wonder he leaked it? Wouldn't surprise me if her attorneys had a copy of it and they floated it... The police department has had it all this time. Why after almost 5 years do they decide to release it to the media. Her looking insane does nothing to benefit the prosecution. It benefits Jodi in case her defense team decides in the 11th hour they want to go with insanity. It is probably appearing to them that the whole self defense strategy is failing - it's pretty clear this internet degreed psychologist is slowly but surely trying to paint a picture of mental disorders. He's throwing all kinds of things on the wall to just see what will stick. Isn't it odd that the release of this video just happens to come at the same time Dr. Fog is on the stand????

    1. Anonymous, "Dr. Fog" - I love it! Great analogy. I would agree that most people realize their movements are videotaped in those police interview rooms. I'm wondering why they had previously released the clip of her doing that yoga style stretch in the chair, but the handstand footage came out later? It appears to be taken on the same day while she's in her street clothes. I'm sure IF she could've used an insanity defense, that would've been her first choice. There must be some reason they aren't. It would be hard to claim this was a heat-of-the-moment, 2nd degree murder with all the planning and forethought she put into her murderous road trip. I love your "internet-degreed" doctor comments! Thanks for commenting, very insightful and amusing!

  2. Excellent comments Anon! I had not given thought to who would have released the video. You are so correct! I highly doubt that the prosecution / police released it. What a coinkydink that it's suddenly at this time surfaced.

  3. My Forte - I am in total agreement about the manyana flow of this trial. I have never seen a trial that starts late nearly every single day and with so many days off! Drives me nuts. The jury must be beyond frustrated! I heard that one of the atty's had a family commitment and that's why it had to be moved to Monday. Whatever, to my mind it is risky.

    1. Hi NancyB,
You would think that with all of the media coverage around this trial, it's risky having those 18-19 jurors out there with so much time passing. It seems to me on most days they start late, have numerous sidebars and recesses and 3 day court weeks! If they have to re try this case, that's going to cost the state of AZ a fortune! I know the trial judge is trying her best to keep this thing moving forward, but it seems to be moving at a snails pace with no end in sight. I think Judge Perry did a great job in keeping the Casey Anthony trial moving forward with minimal delays - but then again, she never took the stand. I agree they are taking a risk every time they delay the testimony that somebody will see, hear or read something they aren't supposed to. It could even be purely accidental, it's hard to miss all the coverage and I live in California! Can you imagine what it's like in Arizona? Thanks for commenting and enjoy your weekend!

  5. What bothers me is why the prosecution has not made it clear that no rope fibers were ever found in the bedroom, the jury needs to know that would elimate bringing a knife into the scene unless she brought it in herself.

I agree with you about all of the weapons. I think that Juan Martinez is going to drive all of these points home during his rebuttal case. Right now he's letting her dig her own grave by nailing down her statements and proving them to be inconsistent, inaccurate and lies! I thought the State rested their case early, but I now understand why they did. Keep Jodi Arias talking. Like when he called that WalMart store in Pasadena and told her that they had no record of anybody returning a gas can on the date she testified to. I think we can expect to see a lot more of that type of information in the rebuttal case. There's no way her story stands up with the timeframe they have established - it all happened in 62 seconds or less, I guess it's possible but improbable! Thanks for commenting.

  6. It's too late for her to try and play the insanity card. If she had been smart, she should have given that a try over this preposterous abuse bullcrap. Don't think it would have worked, because it's very hard to use that one, and she wouldn't have met the criteria. I don't believe that she did it for anyone's benefit but her own. Because she's a freak. I don't know that she would have known that she was being filmed. Unless you have experience with being arrested, etc., I can see how you might not even think about that. Especially her...she didn't seem to really think about a lot of things...like memory cards in cameras, for example. Sick ticket, that one is! Not insane....just sick.

Anybody who's watched "The First 48", "48 Hours" or any other crime show would know those interview rooms have cameras. She's just a very creepy woman, I have always thought she is a stalker without remorse. I have no doubt the Mesa police department would still be looking for 2 armed intruders if she hadn't left her bloody palm print and if she took that camera with her. She took everything that would link her to the crime and left behind things she believed wouldn't come back to haunt her. It's almost a little bit of karma that she, who fancies herself as a professional photographer, would have those photos come back to nail her to the wall!

  7. So true - about the karmic justice about her own photos and arrogance. Also if she had never called the Az police with her inquiries and never spoke with them without an attorney she would also not be where she is now. Thk Gd she wasn't quite that clever. I think she absolutely knew she was being video surveilled. Anyone that truly killed in self defense has tons of remorse and they are very vocal about it. They certainly don't describe it as "when Travis passed away". I'd like to throttle her each time she and her atty's have come out with that BS.

I read over at Websluths by a posting of an Az attorney that part of the time dysfunction with days without court and continuously starting late is directly due to severe budget cuts and they do not have enough judges (lay offs and not replacing ones that retired) and the ones that they have are double scheduled and very busy. Then there is also not enough court rooms. What a mess. I have never seen anything like it.

    1. NancyB,
That's unfortunate that the criminal justice system is being affected by budget cuts! This is the system that is supposed to keep the public at large SAFE! That may explain why these jurors are not sequestered as well. There are certain segments of our infrastructure that should not be "cut" - emergency responders, hospitals and certainly the entire jail/criminal justice system. Interesting comments, thank you!

  8. First off, I want to say how much I love your blog! I check everyday to see what is new with the case. Love it! Second of all, WHAT is going on with the handstands? I don't know whether to laugh, or just be grossed out by this chick.

I have been completely engrossed with this case also and I just cannot figure this woman out. I mean, it's clear she is various personality disorders, but it's just so odd. I find myself feeling sorry for her at odd moments and have to snap myself back into reality and realize this is how she manipulated so many people. I was looking at her Myspace page and it seems like she was always trying to fit into what someone else wanted her to be. She would be whatever religion would impress or put her in a place where it could manipulate whatever she wanted from a situation. That's just sick. She's sick on so many levels. But the I handstands?!? LOL SHEEESH! I can't. I can't wait to see what happens next. And pray justice is served for Mr. Alexander's family.

Thanks again for such an awesome blog. It's so informative! :)

Thank you for commenting - yes, Jodi Arias seems to be a follower, someone who inserts herself into another's life because she lacks an identity of her own. I'd be willing to bet she's always used her looks to get what she wants out of men and to manipulate others. She is just one creepy woman! I pray she is never allowed to walk the streets again - for the sake of mankind....

Interesting comments, I'll have to check out a clip of House Of The Flying Daggers. She really doesn't have many original thoughts does she? She hadn't been real successful, so she latches onto people who are and inserts herself into their lives in an effort to validate her own life. I think Travis recognized this, but he realized it too late to get her out of his life completely and for good.
