On February 4, 2013, 21 year old Kelsie Schelling told friends and family she was heading to Pueblo Colorado to tell boyfriend Donthe Lucas she was 8 weeks pregnant with their child. She has never been seen since. She and her unborn child remain missing, however there have been developments that law enforcement won't disclose that have led to the arrest of former basketball standout Donthe Lucas. At the time of the incident, Lucas was playing for Northeastern Junior College.
Schelling's car was found in Pueblo ten days after she was reported missing. No further details have been published about what evidence the car may have contained or what led to the arrest of Donthe Lucas. At the time he was served with the murder arrest warrant, he was in jail on charges of armed robbery. I guess his basketball dreams have gone up in smoke. How can a man kill his girlfriend simply because she is pregnant? No motive has been given but this detail stands out as a possible catalyst for the murder. Perhaps Donthe didn't want to be a father, didn't want to be tied to a woman because of his basketball dreams. Who knows. All we do know is the police had enough evidence to arrest him. Now they want to brig Kelsie and her unborn baby home so they can have a proper burial. This is so disturbing when murderers hide their victims bodies and rob the families and friends of having a place to honor and visit them. Hopefully the charges and evidence will be enough for him to make some sort of deal to tell law enforcement where the body is in exchange for a lighter sentence. I don't know if the DA is seeking the death penalty but since she was pregnant at the time of her presumed death it should be considered a double homicide.
What a beautiful young woman Kelsie was - 21 years old with her whole life in front of her. Just a plain waste of life here. If Donthe Lucas is responsible, it's time to do the right thing and tell them where she is.
